Bario is a peaceful village located in the centre of the Kelabit Highlands in the north east of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is almost sharing international borders with the Indonesian Kalimantan, and is about 3280 feet above sea level. It is the main settlement in the Kelabit Highlands. There are regular flights between Bario Airport, Miri & Marudi. As for their history, the Kelabits are mostly found in the region stretching from the Karayan and the Kelapang River northwards to the Upper Limbang River, a belt of the Kelabit hinterland.
Miri is a rapidly expanding business & commercial centre & the home of Sarawak's oil industry. It is located in North-East Sarawak close to Brunei border. In recent years Miri has become a major tourism gateway & the jumping-off point for some of Sarawak's world-famous National Parks, including Mulu Caves, Niah Caves, Lambir Hills. Other interesting destination such as the Kelabit Highlands are also accessible from Miri.

Four million years ago, the island of Taiwan was formed by the collision of plates. After millions of years of wind erosion, the marble rocks were exposed and cut by Liwu River, creating impressive grand canyons. The Mulu Caves Complex contains 4 Show Caves which you can journey into – The Cave of Winds, Clearwater Cave, Deer Cave and Lang Cave. Gunung Api or Pinnacles is of special interest, being the highest limestone mountain in Malaysia, and possessing the Pinnacles, strange limestone spikes, like figures watching the park below, with some standing 45meter (148 feet ) high, climbing and watching sunrise is a dream comes true for climbers.
A village of 20 - 25 'bilek' or rooms (each for one family) all under one roof of a long stretch wooden house standing on stilts.
